All in Off-season

3 Off-Season Side Project Ideas

If you're like me, taking the break from the FIRST Robotics season is both a blessing an a curse. There seems to be more free time to do other things, but it's also disappointing because I absolutely love the thrill of FIRST and all that there is to do.

Dozer Met A New Friend: Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is here, so our minds have turned
To what time has taught us, to what we've learned:
We often focus all our thought
On shiny things we've shopped and bought.
We take our pleasure in material things,
Forgetting the pleasure that friendship brings.
If a lot of our stuff just vanished today,
We'd see the foundation of each happy day
Is special relationships, constant and true,
And that's when our thoughts go directly to you.
We wish you a Thanksgiving you'll never forget,
Full of love and joy—your best one yet!

5 Essential Songs for an FRC Music Playlist

Whenever I create different music playlists, I normally do so for a certain purpose: like when I need to get pumped up for the game, or like whenever my girlfriend broke up with me (just kidding, I don't have a girlfriend...). So I was thinking the other day to myself that I need a FIRST Robotics playlist. So I searched and found a great list of songs that FIRST apparently uses at events. Through this list, I got some inspiration to create my own list of songs that pump me up. Here is what I choose. And feel free to comment below with your own songs! :)

The 4 Unique FRC Robots of 2015

The 2015 FIRST robotics game was an interesting one to say the least. Even though it wasn't the most favorite game among teams, it still produced some interesting robots. These robots played the game in very unique ways or had a distinct feature to them. With the help of Bo Russell, from FRC Team 2451 PWNAGE, we came up with four robots.

The Build Season: The Importance of Week 1

If you are looking to help your team through the build season without many train wrecks, you need focus on the most important part: the first week. The way your team spends the first week is crucial to how well the rest of the build season goes and could be the defining factor on how well the competition season is played. Let me explain further below.

FIRST Robotics Resource Websites

Within the past five years FRC has seen growth in websites that provide resources for all FRC members. These websites produce content and resources for other teams to view and share. There are a handful of FIRST related websites, but below are a couple that we thought were pretty cool. You might have heard of them already, but if you haven't, here is what we like:

3 Reasons Why FIRST Robotics Is Cool

Alright. Let's be honest here. FIRST Robotics is a little nerdy when it comes down to it. It involves a whole realm of different "geeky" things like math, science, programming, and awkward small talk with random people you don't know, but in all reality, it is one of the coolest programs out there that will strengthen every area of life. FIRST Robotics is the bomb because of these three reasons.

Helping With A Robotics Camp? Remember These 3 Things

Are you helping out with any sort of robotics camp this summer? Are you getting ready to run one this week with your team? If so, that means you have a lot on your plate, whether you are just helping out for the week or weekend, or planing the whole event. Please take into consideration these three things that will help you maximize your robotics camps effectiveness and the overall experience for everyone.

Have The Off-Season Blues?

Okay, now the Post Traumatic Robotics Stress Disorder (PTRSD) has simmered down a little bit, you might be wondering...”Man, the off-season is too long. Do I really have to wait eight months for the next game release? What am I supposed to do until then?!?” Never fear my fine fellow FIRSTer, the off-season can be just as fun as the competition season. If you have the off-season blues, you might want to consider these few ideas:
