Recruiting Team Members Through Social Media

Recruiting Team Members Through Social Media

Recruiting new FRC Students is not all that easy sometimes, at least good ones anyway. You really do have to work hard to find talented people who desire to be in FIRST Robotics and who have the potential. Don't fret though. You can do it.

One effective way to recruit new team members is through social media. Even though you need interpersonal interaction with students to ultimately get them on your team, social media can be the start of the process if you do it right. Here is how:

Using Social Media

Social media is a great way to find new perspective students quickly. At times, though, it can be very ineffective if you don't know how to do it the right way. So how might you use it in a way that is effective? Well, you want to post something that will catch the eye of potential students. You want to make this post seem exciting, fun, and personal. Here are some guidelines that might help:

  • Keep the message short and sweet. Don't write a massively long post about your team. Keep it simple and get to your point. Use engaging words and phrases that will appeal to students.
  • Add Graphics. Everyone loves videos or any type of graphical posts. Use this to your advantage. Make a short, vibrant video that displays your team's personality. Or add a photo to you post. It will have better engagement.
  • Have all students, team leaders, mentors, and parents share the post. After you craft a well-thoughtout post, have as many people share the post to get the word out. You might have to ask people personally to do this for you, but if you do it, the word will spread about your team and that you're looking for new students.

Here is what a post might look like:

Once someone shows interest in the post (i.e. likes it or comments on it) make sure you quickly message them on whatever platform you are using so you can connect on a personal level with them to explain the benefits of joining.
